transverse cracking, transverse fissure, transverse defect
*레일(rail)의 긴 방향에 대해서, 직각(直角), 횡방향(橫方向)으로 발생하는 균열을 "횡렬"이라고 한다. 레일 제조상의 재질적 결함, *용접(鎔接) 시의 내부 결함에 의한 것도 있지만, *셸링(shelling)이나 *공전흠(空 轉欠) 등의 *두정면상(頭頂面 傷) 또는 *부식(腐蝕)에 의한 흠집이 계기로 발생하는 경우도 있다. 또한 분기기용(分岐器用) 레일의 저부(底部)의 구멍 가공이 원인이 되는 경우도 있다.
