*말렛식(Mallet式)의 *증기 기관차(蒸氣機關車) 등에서 사용된 방식(方式)으로, 한차례 제1의 고압 실린더(高壓cylinder)에서 사용하고 배기(排氣)한 증기(蒸氣)를 제2의 저압 실린더(低壓cylinder)에서 다시 한번 동력원(動力源)으로서 이용하는 방법. 말렛식의 경우에는 후방의 *러닝 기어 (running gear)에 제1의 고압실린더, 전방의 주행 장치(走行裝置)에는 제2의 저압 실린더를 배치하고 있다.
